Q.  Please tell us about yourself?

A.  I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and have lived here most of my life. I spend as much time as possible traveling the world & my favorite places are small, quaint towns or expansive, mountain ranges with incredible views.  I'm a photographer, a fitness instructor, an interior designer and a busy mom!  There's not a lot of “down time” in my daily schedule, but I wouldn’t trade my life for anything! Raising kids is temporary madness, but family is everything to me.  I don’t want to miss a moment of this phase of my life, so I embrace the chaos of it all and try to soak in the moments that I know will pass all too quickly.  I have an amazing husband and 2 children.  My daughter is type A+ like me!  She’s a great student, a focused athlete and and extremely talented singer and actor.  We think she has gils hidden under her ribs because she is an unstoppable swimmer.  My son is the one who keeps us all laughing.  He’s extremely smart and extremely witty.  He swims as well, and he is also a cross country runner and a defensive lacrosse player.  Special interests include:  Photography, Fitness, Travel (My travel/photography IG account is @kmarotte, and I have another wildlife one from an African photographic safari @kmarotte_wildlife)

Q.  What role does yoga play in your life?

A.  I discovered yoga while trying to heal an injury.  I push myself pretty hard in life as well as in the gym, and I have a torn meniscus in both knees, an ACL replacement in one.  It was just over a year ago that I found myself unable to walk without knee pain.  I worked with doctors and therapists to get to the bottom of the issue, was close to surgery when I decided to give yoga a try. I limped into an ashtanga class having no idea what I was going to experience. I was amazed that after a 90 minute class I was walking normally out of the studio.  That’s when I realized the knee issue was secondary.  I had been stretching daily, but ashtanga took it to a whole new level!  I was hooked immediately.  People watch me do yoga and think I have been at it for many years, but in fact it is still fairly new to me.  I am planning to go through an extensive teacher training this fall and eventually add it to my fitness instruction.  It’s been life-changing for me!

Q.  What is your favorite yoga pose and why?

A.  I love the backbends!  Yes, they hurt me every time I do them.  I was never a gymnast and I had to work at becoming flexible, but keeping my spine healthy is my fountain of youth!

Q.  What does a typical day look like for you?  How do you find balance?

A.  Balance for me starts in the mind.  It’s an attitude.  It’s feeling grateful for where you are in life and yet hopeful about where you want to go.  Because I am so busy, I strive to keep my words and my interactions with others positive.  When you pour yourself into other people genuinely, you will find it's the greatest way to be fulfilled.

Q.  What’s on your bucket list?

A.  More travel!  I have been to over 50 countries, but I still have not seen Machu Picchu. I'm also experiencing travel through the eyes of my children now which is a whole new joy.  In the spring we traveled to South Africa as a family.  I knew I had good travelers when my son ordered gemsbok for dinner and my daughter ordered wildabeast! They make experiencing new places fun for me!!!  One other thing on my bucket list:  I want to go to a Super Bowl!

Q.  How long have you been on instagram?

A.  I started IG when my daughter asked me to open an account for her in 2014.  We did it together.  My fitness (yoga) account was started in January of 2017!

Q.  How has yoga connected you with other people (especially on instagram)?

A.  I was never into social media before IG.  I’m still not very active on Facebook.  What I have learned is that IG is a powerful way to touch people and to find motivation for whatever it is you are seeking.  I am inspired by yogis that are far more advanced than I am and people who have transformed their bodies and their lives with hard work and focus.  I love to look at other photographers’ works, and I even use Instagram to discover new places.

Last year we were heading to Italy to hike the Dolomitis, I searching the geo-tags of IG for inspiration.  I came across a photo that truly spoke to me and took it to my husband.  I said, “Honey, I want to go right there and stand where this photographer stood and take this shot.”  Technology is so incredible!  He was able to pinpoint the exact coordinates from the tagged photo, and he took me RIGHT to the spot!!!  The only problem was on the day we were there, clouds had rolled into the valley covering the mountain range I so desperately wanted to capture...But he got me there, and I took the shot anyway.

Q.  Are you involved with any social initiatives or charities.

A.  I spend lots of time volunteering.  One of the most rewarding things my husband and I do as a couple is mentor to engaged couples.  We open our home to young couples every week for 2 hours and share life with them.  We cover every topic you can imagine and draw from our strengths and our weaknesses.  In the end, we often say we grow more than the couples do!

I also have a creative side that needs to be fed, so I plug into the music and drama departments of local elementary and middle schools. For the past 7 years, I have been a set designer and a costume designer for their drama productions.  I love seeing a vision come to life!!!  I spend endless hours building props and making costumes that will only last for 4 shows. Last year I hand-made 115 costumes for The Wizard of Oz...It’s a lot of work, but when the kids walk onto the stage feeling incredible in their costumes and begin to interact with the sets, my heart explodes knowing I contributed to a memory that will last a lifetime for them.

Q.  At Vibration Apparel, we are all about spreading good vibes.  What does good vibe living mean to you?

We have a choice daily.  We can use our energy to criticize people or we can use it to build others up.  One is exhausting and one is fulfilling.  The brain can only focus on so much at one time, so if we concentrate on the positive it actually becomes more difficult to see the negative.  Good Vibes mean using your gifts and your talents to touch other people in a way that leaves them feeling full, not depleted.
